Former Italian footballer Paolo Di Canio has expressed his opinion regarding Liverpool signing Alisson for a world record fee. Di Canio feels that while Alisson can reach new heights at the Merseyside, he needs to be careful since the Red has a woeful defensive record.
Jurgen Klopp’s unit conceded 38 goals last season – which was the highest among the top four sides – due to a mix of poor defending and Loris Karius’ insecure goalkeeping.
“He can reach great results in Liverpool but he needs to be careful because Liverpool used to concede a lot to their opponents,” he said.
“Liverpool used to win games with weird results like 5-3, 5-2. It’s not easy to find a balance.”
The former Lazio star then went on to state that he is very keen on seeing how the former Roma man fares out in England after having a great season with his club in Serie A. He also added the shot-stopper has the skills to become an elite goalkeeper.
“I’m very curious to see him in the Premier League because lot of great goalkeeper just failed in England,” he said.
“Alisson was great in his first season in Rome and now he still needs to show his qualities.
“He has the skills and the personality to become a world-class goalkeeper and he is also young and in a good shape.”
Alisson was signed by Liverpool for a world record fee that could rise up to £65 million, making him the most expensive goalkeeper of all time. His arrival all but confirms that Loris Karius’ future lies away from the Merseyside.
