It is known by all that Uefa stands for the European Football Association. Everyone went amaze when the final three nominees for the UEFA Player of the Year for the year is announced. Luka Modric from Real Madrid and Croatia, Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid and Portugal and Mohamed Salah from Liverpool and Egypt made their names into the list. This award is not based on fan votes like FIFA’s ‘The Best’ awards. The UEFA award has a different set of jury panel who judges the players. The jury consists of 80 managers who have managed clubs in the Champions League and Europa League last season. Apart from them, 55 journalists from various UEFA member associations are also the part of the jury. Players are being judged on their domestic, continental, and international performances around the year. The worst part of the award is only three get the final shortlist and a number of others are left behind in the cold. It is debatable that who is gonna win the race though it’s not debatable that many other players also deserved to be in the final third. Here is top five selection who deserved to make the list but didn’t.
Number 5: Eden Hazard
The leader of the golden generation of the Belgian International Football team surely deserved in the final three. Belgium have come miles from the tag of being the ‘Dark Horses’ to the favourites in the past few years and Eden Hazard is one of the reasons behind. The forward was brilliant in Russia with 40 successful dribbles at 6.7 per game. Nobody else was even close to this winger. Hazard scored three goals in the World Cup and picked up the Silver Ball award. Though campaign with Chelsea wasn’t too impressive by the means of trophies. Hazard managed to score 17 times including the one in the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
