The experienced and successful Pia Sundhage has been named the new head coach of the Brazilian women’s national team, following the exit of Vadao earlier in the week.

Sundhage has signed an initial two-year contract with the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF), which will see her take charge of the country at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Tokyo 2020.

The Swede has reached the last three Olympic Gold Medal matches, winning the gold as coach of USA in 2008 and 2012 before leading her home country of Sweden to silver at Rio 2016.

“Ola Brazil! I just want to tell you how excited I am to be coaching the country of football, Brazil, to bring out the best performance in each other together,” Sundhage said in a video posted on the CBF’s official social media platforms. “Let’s go, Brazil!”
